I am quite likely the only person in the universe that loved this movie the way it was meant to be loved.

Well, at the time the movie came out, there were entire legions of fangirls who liked the movie for the goth aspect, or because it was Johnny Depp, or what have you. People who had no interest in even knowing that the story is practically old as dirt. That statement above was originally meant to separate myself from the realm of "fangirl" and put myself in the "I am some kind of literary snob kthx" category. :D

Yeah, what with all the Hot Topic clothing and merchandice, it was sort of one of those movies that got super popular because of adolescent fangirls.
I, for one, love the movie because of it's brilliant music! Just got the soundtrack recently and I don't think I'll tire of it anytime soon. <3
